SkateFest, the annual public ice skating event at the Savannah Civic Center, is a popular family friendly, alcohol free activity that takes place in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Arena. It is co-sponsored by Coca Cola and WSAV TV.
“SkateFest really gets Savannah into the holiday spirit. If you’re from Savannah you grew up coming to the Civic Center to ice skate. It’s become a tradition for families looking for entertainment during winter break, and a healthy way to spend time together,” said Cindy Ogletree, Acting Director of the Savannah Civic Center.
With three to six public skating sessions daily, SkateFest is convenient for everyone. Each SkateFest session is 1.5 hours long and new this year, a concession stand will be open in the Civic Center Main Lobby between sessions during SkateFest hours. “This way, people can come early or stay after their skating session and grab a bite to eat without having to leave the building,” said Ogletree.
Admission to SkateFest is $7.00 per person for skaters and spectators but skate rental is included in that fee and you can also bring your own skates. You can also purchase SkateFest passes that are good for five sessions ($30). You can call 912-651-3062 for more information.
“It does really well, and it’s really become quite the tradition in the city for families in town and also for people coming through,” said Ogletree. “A lot (of people) come back again and again. To me, anyone who feels like they can get out there and skate should give it a try.”
Will you give Skatefest a try this year?
